4-Ball Couple Scramble

This is a four person team game; two standard couples comprise a team.  Each couple is partnered for all 18 holes of play as follows:

On each hole, all players hit from tee then each partnership selects one ball.  Each partnership moves to their selected ball and both players hit from that spot; then each player plays their own ball through the hole.  The result is one score for each partnership for each hole with the total of the two partnerships’ scores comprising the team score; there are no individual scores.  Team must use at least two tee shots per player during the game.

Enter team score on TEAM SCORE line.  Compute total team score on TEAM SCORE line and subtract team handicap for NET TEAM SCORE.  (Team handicap is 50% of total players’ handicaps.)

“Gimme” putts are allowed for players whose score on a hole will not count for team score.

Handicap:  No dots on scorecard.  Mark 50% of total players’ handicaps on team score line.

Pairings process as follows:

1.     Pair standard couples line by line and compute a COUPLE INDEX for each couple.

2.     Sort the list of couples by COUPLE INDEX (low to high)

3.     Equally divide the list into flights of no more than sixteen couples for each flight.  Example: With a field of 64 couples, the lowest 16 COUPLE INDEXs on the list make up Flight 1, the second lowest 16 COUPLE INDEXs make up Flight 2, etc.

4.     Form the teams in each flight by pairing the highest COUPLE INDEX with the lowest COUPLE INDEX, second highest with second lowest, etc.
